The Sandy River is just 20 minutes East of our fly shop, at the mouth of the Columbia Gorge. The Sandy, a federally designated "Wild and Scenic"river is a freestone river that is home to Steelhead, Coho, and Spring and Fall Chinook. Anglers the world over have made the pilgrimage to fish here, with both Winter and Summer run Steelhead, there are steelhead in the river every day of the year. We start fishing the Sandy in November, looking for the early returning Winter fish which will peak in March. By April, we will start seeing the first of the summer runs entering the system, with the summers peaking in June.
Swung flies on spey rods is the ticket here. With a new run around every bend, you'll be sure to present your fly to a fish. Will it grab? Only one way to find out, and that's put your time on the river. You'll be in good hands, our guides eat, drink, dream, and fish steelhead! The Sandy is a great river for the more timid wader, aptly named, the bottom has a lot of even sand stream bottom, making it a much easier wade.
