3d printing

  • Do you prefer designing your own models or downloading them? What tools do you use if you make your own?

  • I go back and forth on this depending on the project. For functional parts, I almost always design my own because I need precise dimensions and I actually enjoy the problem-solving process. But for game-related stuff or display pieces, I’ve found that buying a well-tested model saves so much time and filament. I started using https://www.gambody.com/ a while back specifically for their game models because the supports are usually pre-optimized and the files are cut for FDM printing, which means fewer failed prints compared to ripping game assets myself. The way I see it, designing your own gives you full control, but downloading a professionally done model lets you skip straight to the satisfying part of actually holding the finished piece.
