Supplements for muscle growth - what's actually effective?

  • I'm trying to figure out which supplements are actually worth taking for muscle growth. There are so many products advertised, and it's hard to tell what's legitimate and what's just marketing hype. I've been focusing on diet and consistent training, but I'm curious if there are any specific supplements that have shown real, scientifically-backed results in helping build muscle mass. What have your experiences been, and what do you recommend looking into?

  • When it comes to supplements for muscle growth, it's definitely a minefield of information. For me, the classics generally remain the most effective. Creatine is probably one of the most studied and proven supplements that helps with strength and muscle gain by boosting energy production in your muscles during workouts. There's also usually a lot of talk around human growth hormone (HGH) in this context, but from what I've seen, it's not directly influenced by creatine. The relationship between Creatine and HGH is more about two separate mechanisms that both support aspects of performance and recovery, rather than one directly affecting the other. Focus on the basics, like creatine, and ensure your diet and training are solid first.

  • It's true that the supplement market is saturated, making it difficult to sift through the noise. What works for one person might not work for another, and individual responses to supplements can vary widely. Ultimately, consistency in diet, sleep, and a well-structured training program will always be the foundational pillars for muscle growth, with supplements playing a supportive, rather than primary, role.
