Your Mt. Hood Adventure Awaits

Ever wanted to explore Mount Hood with a fly rod in your hand? Let us show you the magic and majesty of our local mountain with Fly'East Angling Adventures. Spring has arrived early this year, which means we're already booking trips and catching fish. Be early to the party and book your trip ASAP.
Last year, NWFFO became the only outfitter permitted to guide fly fishing trips on select waterbodies within the Mount Hood National Forest. For Portland-area trout anglers, the lakes and streams of Mount Hood represent some of the best and most proximal trout fly fishing opportunities around.

With an unseasonably warm spring already upon us, our Fly'East season will be getting started earlier than usual this year β and that's great news for any Portland angling enthusiast who wants to catch beautiful wild (and stocked) trout without logging a ton of miles on the odometer.
The Fly'East angling season rolls out in stages, but there are lakes and streams ready to fish right here and now. We are permitted to guide on eight total waterbodies within the Mount Hood National Forest boundaries, including six trophy trout lakes and two of the best and most scenic small streams on the entire mountain.

Early-Season Highlights
While it's still a bit early for drive-in access to lakes like Trillium, Timothy, Frog, and Clear, we are already booking trips at Lake Harriet, Rock Creek Reservoir, and Badger Creek. Here's what makes each one worth your time right now.
Rock Creek Reservoir β Booking Now Through Mid-May
Rock Creek Reservoir is one of the first Mount Hood lakes to provide quality fly fishing opportunities each year. ODFW stocks this irrigation reservoir heavily in March and April, with peak season between April 1 and mid-May. Rock Creek Reservoir is a beautiful little lake in a high desert environment, and it holds hungry rainbow trout up to 15 pounds.
Lake Harriet β Booking Now Through November
Lake Harriet is one of the finest fly fishing lakes in the state of Oregon, and provides the opportunity to catch wild brown, brook, and cutthroat trout β along with stocked rainbows β in a single setting. This little lake has an active, moving channel along one bank that allows anglers to combine still water and stream tactics for some of the most visual trout fishing you'll ever do. Dry fly fishing? Check. Streamers? Yep. Indicator? Absolutely. Best of all, Harriet is less than 90 minutes from Portland. This is one of our most popular destinations on the mountain, and dates fill up fast.
Badger Creek β Booking Now Through June
A small tributary of the White River, Badger Creek is one of the few Mount Hood streams open to trout fishing year-round. It is also one of the most unique streams in the Portland area, and provides classic small stream pocket water fishing. Expect to spend most of your day ankle deep, walking upstream along the creek bed, casting carefully to spooky, wild redband trout. While most of the fish here are fairly small, there are some larger specimens available. This is physical, close-quarters fishing with big aesthetic rewards. The season, however, tends to be short β so don't sleep on this one.
