Experience Oregon's Premier Trout Fishery Year-Round
Join Northwest Fly Fishing Outfitters for an unforgettable fly fishing adventure on the legendary Deschutes River. With world-class fishing opportunities every month of the year, diverse hatches, and stunning high desert scenery, the Deschutes offers something special in every season.
Why Fish the Deschutes River?
The Deschutes is one of the West's most productive and beautiful trout rivers, featuring healthy populations of wild rainbow and redband trout. Our expert guides know the river's seasonal patterns, prime locations, and proven techniques to put you on fish no matter when you visit.
Seasonal Fishing Opportunities
Spring (March-May)
Spring brings prolific hatches and aggressive feeding. Expect dense Blue Winged Olive and March Brown mayfly emergences, early-season caddis, and excellent dry fly action before runoff. This is prime time for technical presentations and sight fishing to rising trout.
Summer (June-August)
Summer is peak season on the Deschutes, featuring the legendary Salmonfly and Golden Stone hatches, Green Drakes, PMDs, and evening caddis emergences. Terrestrial patterns become effective as grasshoppers and ants hit the water. Long days and warm weather make this the most popular time to fish.
Fall (September-November)
Fall offers some of the year's best fishing with fewer crowds. Blue Wing Olives return, October Caddis provide explosive surface action, and terrestrial fishing continues. Dry-dropper techniques excel as trout feed aggressively before winter.
Winter (December-February)
Winter fishing on the Deschutes is a hidden gem. Enjoy solitude on the river while nymphing deep runs, swinging for trout, and fishing midge and small BWO hatches. Premium conditions for Euro nymphing and indicator techniques.
