In-Store Classroom Session (2-3 Hours)

Build your fly fishing foundation with expert instruction covering everything you need to know:

Gear & Equipment:

  • Fly fishing rods and reels explained
  • Understanding fly lines and their uses
  • Tapered leaders vs tippet materials
  • Fluorocarbon vs monofilament line
  • Essential gear (floatant, dry shake, hemostats, and more)

Flies & Techniques:

  • Understanding different fly types and when to use them
  • Fishing techniques: dry flies, nymphs, and soft hackle swinging
  • Basic entomology and insect identification
  • Matching the hatch for local waters

Fish & Water Knowledge:

  • Species identification: trout, steelhead, and salmon
  • Reading water to find fish
  • Understanding river levels and conditions

Clackamas River Walk & Wade Session (Afternoon/Evening)
